Srinagar: The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, will launch the second tranche of limestone block auctions in Jammu and Kashmir on May 12 in Srinagar, marking another major step towards tapping the Union Territory’s mineral potential and promoting industrial growth.

The second tranche includes the auction of 12 limestone blocks identified in the districts of Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch. The blocks comprise both newly identified reserves and those being re-auctioned in a second attempt, reflecting the government’s focus on optimal resource utilisation and sustained industry participation.

The launch event will be attended by Piyush Goyal and J&K Additional Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, besides senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at accelerating mineral development, boosting industrial expansion and strengthening inclusive economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The limestone blocks fall under the UNFC G3 and G4 stages of exploration, indicating significant geological potential and the presence of industrial-grade limestone deposits. These resources are considered crucial for sectors such as cement, construction and infrastructure development.

The auction process is being conducted under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015, as amended. Authorities said the bidding process will be carried out through a transparent digital e-auction platform in line with global best practices.

The Ministry of Mines said it remains committed to promoting scientific and sustainable mining practices. The successful auction and operationalisation of these limestone blocks is expected to generate revenue, create employment opportunities and contribute to the overall industrial and economic development of Jammu and Kashmir.
