SRINAGAR: A delegation of the Committee on Government Assurances of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday visited the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and held discussions with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on strengthening inter-state legislative cooperation and parliamentary coordination.
The delegation was led by Committee Chairman Harishankar Khatik and included members Gourav Singh Pardhi, Rajan Mandloi and Ramnivas Saha, besides senior officials.
During the interaction, the two sides exchanged insights on legislative functioning, committee procedures and mechanisms aimed at ensuring government accountability through implementation of assurances made on the floor of the House.
Discussions were also held on evolving parliamentary practices and ways to strengthen legislative oversight through greater institutional coordination and exchange of best practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Rahim Rather highlighted the role of Committees on Government Assurances in ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. He said such interactions help broaden understanding of diverse legislative practices and contribute towards strengthening democratic institutions across the country.
The discussions also reflected the shared commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh legislatures towards improving monitoring mechanisms and implementation of government commitments.
The visiting delegation appreciated the functioning of the J&K Legislative Assembly and expressed satisfaction over the exchange of ideas and parliamentary practices during the visit.
Concluding the session, the Speaker said such engagements play an important role in fostering cooperation, dialogue and democratic cohesion among legislative institutions across the country.
