Intense Taolu contests mark Day 3 and 4 of Inter-University Wushu Championship at KU

SRINAGAR: University of Kashmir witnessed intense competition and enthusiastic participation during Day 3 and Day 4 of the ongoing All India Inter-University Wushu Championship 2026 at SKISC Srinagar.

The championship is being organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities.

The event features competitions across 12 weight categories in Men’s Sanda and 10 weight categories in Women’s Sanda, besides Taolu events in both sections. Officials said the competition has become increasingly competitive as the Sanda contests advance into later rounds.

Vice-Chancellor Nilofer Khan urged participants to compete with integrity and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. She said the university is continuously working to strengthen sports culture and provide greater opportunities for student-athletes at national platforms.

Brij Kishore from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education attended the championship as observer on behalf of the AIU.

The Taolu competitions held during Day 3 and 4 drew attention for displays of agility, balance, precision and traditional martial arts techniques.

In the Women’s Taolu Single event, Daisy Rabha of Bodoland University won the gold medal, while Jeevitha Anna Georgy of University of Kerala secured silver and Barsha Diya of Gautam Buddha University claimed bronze.

In the Changquan Men category, Subhash of Panjab University won gold, while Thounganba Aheibam of Lovely Professional University secured silver and Leimapokpam Nelson Meitei took bronze.

In the Changquan Women event, Mercy Ngaimong of Rashtriya Raksha University bagged gold, while Yumlembam Echantombi Devi of National Sports University won silver and Ankita secured bronze.

In the Daoshu Men category, Subhash Tomar won gold for Panjab University, while Jyotirmann Borah of Chandigarh University secured silver and Thounganba Aheibam won bronze.

The championship has also drawn large crowds of spectators. Officials said the final Sanda bouts and closing ceremony are scheduled for Saturday.
