Drug racket busted in Kulgam

Srinagar, May 05: Police in Kulgam busted a drug racket by arresting three accused, including a key kingpin, and recovering heroin and cash under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

Police Station Qazigund registered FIR No. 108/2026 under the NDPS Act after intercepting two accused—Hilal Ahmad Ganai of Kanispora and Parvaz Ahmad Bhat of Wagoora—near Choimulla. About 50 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.

During investigation, police arrested the alleged kingpin, Sadiq Hussain alias Showki of Vijaypur, Samba, and recovered 152 grams of heroin and ₹52,000 from his premises.

In separate actions, Police in Anantnag, Handwara and Shopian arrested multiple drug peddlers. In Anantnag, Ishfaq Ahmad Mir of Seer Hamdan was held with charas and poppy straw, while Talib Gull Shah and Aqib Ahmad Malik were arrested in Bijbehara with brown sugar. Shafqat Ahmad Sofi and Jaffar Mushtaq Dar were also held with contraband.

In Handwara, Ghulam Mohammad Lone and Irshad Ahmad Pandit were arrested with charas and ganja-like substances.

In Shopian, Police Station Shopian registered FIR No. 81/2026 and arrested Obaid Shamim Ganaie of Pinjoora after recovering around 5 kg of charas-like substance.

Police said further investigation is underway to dismantle the broader drug network.
