Srinagar: : Police on Monday said it has demolished an “illegal” residential structure belonging to a “habitual drug peddler” in the Palpora Noorbagh area of Srinagar.
The accused Mohammad Irfan Sheikh alias Iff, son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh of Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh, “is a known narcotics offender” involved in multiple NDPS cases, including FIR No. 134/2024 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS Act of Police Station Safakadal and FIR No. 48/2025 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Sangam, a police spokesperson informed.
He said the investigation and verification have revealed that the said structure was raised illegally on land acquired and developed “using proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking”. The construction was carried out “without lawful authority, in clear violation of revenue laws”.
It has further surfaced that close associates and family members of the accused are also reportedly involved in multiple NDPS cases across the Valley, indicating a wider network linked to drug peddling activities.
“Acting on credible inputs and after due legal process, the demolition has been carried out in coordination with the concerned authorities, strictly in accordance with law and after completion of all codal formalities,” police said.
It said this action sends a clear and unequivocal message: “properties created from proceeds of drug trafficking will not be spared, and those involved in narcotics trade will face strict and visible consequences.”
