Jammu:  Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed anguish over the death of three workers in the bridge collapse incident on the outskirts of Jammu city.

Three bodies were recovered and two persons were rescued in injured condition from the debris following a 12-hour-long search operation, after a portion of an under-repair bridge collapsed in Bantalab area late Friday, officials said.

“Extremely anguished by the loss of lives due to bridge collapse in Bantalab, Jammu. I offer my deepest condolences to bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Office of the Lt Governor said in a post on X.

The L-G also directed the district administration to provide necessary assistance to the affected families.

The chief minister expressed deep sorrow over the death of three workers in the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, according to the chief minister’s office.

He directed a thorough inquiry into the incident to ascertain the cause and fix responsibility, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary rushed to the spot at midnight and ordered the suspension of two engineers besides directing a probe into alleged dereliction of duty.
