In recent years, educators and parents alike have observed troubling trends among children which indicate an increase in aggression, declining academic performance, and the rise of unhealthy habits. As an educator, I have personally witnessed these changes in classrooms, where students are often distracted, emotionally reactive, and increasingly influenced by harmful behaviors. One of the major reasons behind this shift is excessive use of mobile phones. With easy access to the internet, children are exposed to content that is not suitable for their age. Social media, online games, and short videos reduce their attention span and make them less interested in studies. Instead of focusing on books, many students spend hours on screens, which directly impacts their academic performance.

Another contributing factor is the lack of proper supervision and guidance. In many cases, both parents are busy, leaving children unsupervised for long periods. Without guidance, children may develop bad habits such as addiction to screens, use of inappropriate language, or even experimenting with harmful substances. For example, some children have been found misusing everyday items like fluids for inhalation to experience pleasure, which is extremely dangerous. The use of electronic cigarettes among young students is also becoming alarmingly common.Aggression among children is also increasing. This can be linked to exposure to violent content, lack of emotional support, and poor communication skills. When children are unable to express their feelings in a healthy way, they often react with anger or frustration. Peer pressure further pushes them toward negative behaviors, as they try to fit in or appear “cool” among friends.

Additionally, the education system itself sometimes contributes to stress. High expectations, competition, and fear of failure can make children anxious, leading to frustration and aggressive behavior. When students feel disconnected from learning, they lose motivation and may turn toward distractions or harmful habits.

To address this issue, a combined effort from parents, teachers, and society is essential. Parents should monitor their children’s activities, limit screen time, and spend quality time with them. Schools should focus not only on academics but also on emotional development, teaching values, discipline, and life skills. Counseling sessions and awareness programs about the dangers of substance abuse and excessive screen use can also play a crucial role.

In conclusion, the rise in aggression and bad habits among children is a serious concern that cannot be ignored. Early intervention, proper guidance, and a supportive environment can help children develop into responsible and balanced individuals. As educators, we must not only teach subjects but also guide students toward a healthier and more positive way of life.
