Jammu: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a head constable after catching him red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a complainant in Srinagar, officials said.

The accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, was posted in District Srinagar and was allegedly demanding money to remove the complainant’s name from the list of accused in FIR No. 09/2026 registered at Police Station Soura.

According to officials, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that the head constable had initially demanded ₹50,000, which was later negotiated to ₹15,000. Acting on the complaint, the allegations were discreetly verified through a designated officer, and a prima facie case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was established against the accused.

Subsequently, FIR No. 08/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.

During the course of the probe, a trap team was constituted, which successfully apprehended the accused near District Police Lines Srinagar while he was accepting the bribe amount. Officials said the money included ₹5,000 in cash and ₹10,000 through a cheque, which was recovered on the spot.

Further investigation into the case is underway, officials added.
