“The Chief Minister chaired a cabinet meeting this morning in Jammu to consider key development initiatives and discuss governance priorities for the coming period”, the office of CM said on X.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary and ministers, including Sakina Itoo, Javed Ahmed Rana, Javid Ahmed Dar, and Satish Sharma, officials said.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo was also present, they said.

Meanwhile, the J&K cabinet on Tuesday approved a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners, effective from January 1, 2026.

Quoting sources, news agency KNO reported that the cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, gave its go-ahead for enhancing DA by two percent, raising it from 58 percent to 60 percent.

Sources disclosed that the cabinet has also approved a proposal to unify “The Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act” and “The Jammu & Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperatives Act” into a single law. With this decision, instead of two separate laws, there will now be a single consolidated law governing cooperatives in the Union Territory.

The cabinet has also cleared a proposal for the construction of a sewerage treatment plant in Baramulla and Rajouri respectively at an estimated cost of Rs 37 crore and Rs 24 core.

The cabinet also approved proposals of cadre review and reorganization of the Jal Shakti Department.

It also gave nod to recruitment rules for the State Motor Garages, and re-designation of Medical Superintendents, Deputy Medical Superintendents, and Assistant Medical Superintendents in Government Medical Colleges as Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors respectively.

According to sources, the proposals will now go to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.
