Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the launch of the direct Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar, calling it a major step forward in strengthening connectivity across the Union Territory.
Party spokesperson Danish Bhat described the development as a long-awaited milestone, noting that passengers earlier had to change trains at Katra due to segmented rail services. The new direct service, he said, now ensures seamless travel between the two regions.
Bhat credited the Union Government, led by Narendra Modi, for pushing the project to completion, saying it reflects a clear focus on infrastructure growth and inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that such projects had long remained on paper in the past but are now being implemented on the ground.
Highlighting its broader impact, Bhat said the direct rail link is expected to boost trade, tourism and local industries by making travel faster and more reliable. He noted that improved connectivity could also open up new investment opportunities and create avenues for employment, particularly for the youth.
He said the initiative has been widely welcomed by people across the region and described it as a significant step towards deeper economic integration with the rest of the country.
Bhat also urged authorities to consider increasing the frequency of services in view of expected demand, so that more people can benefit from the new connectivity.
Calling it a symbol of progress, he said the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express reflects the government’s broader vision of transforming the region into a hub of growth and opportunity.
