₹3.6 lakh relief announced for Qazigund accident victims

Anantnag: In an immediate relief measure following a tragic road accident in Qazigund, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, on Wednesday sanctioned a cumulative financial assistance of ₹3.6 lakh for the affected families.

The relief includes ₹2 lakh for the family of Fatima Altaf, a Class 2 student who lost her life in the accident—₹1 lakh under Road Accident Assistance and ₹1 lakh from the District Red Cross Fund. For her critically injured sister, ₹1 lakh has been sanctioned (₹50,000 each under the two heads). Additionally, ₹60,000 has been provided to another victim from a separate family who sustained minor injuries. Cheques were handed over to the families during the visit.

The accident occurred on April 27 at Qullibagh, Kurigam, when Fatima, who was on her way to school along with her sister and others, was hit by a vehicle.

Following the announcement, the Deputy Commissioner visited Shampora, Qazigund, to personally meet the bereaved family. He expressed his condolences, prayed for the departed soul, and enquired about the condition of the injured. Assuring full administrative support, he said all necessary help would be extended for the treatment and recovery of the injured.

The DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Muzamil Maqbool, ARTO Muazzam Ali, Tehsildar Qazigund Shakeel Ahmad, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Qazigund Mohd Iqbal, and other officials.
