7 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in various parts of the valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Anantnag, acting on specific inputs, a police party recovered approximately 110 kgs of Ganja (marijuana) from a car (JK01W-7328) at Shalgam Crossing. One person, Nazir Ahmad Khatana of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot, police spokesman informed.

He said a search at the residence of Mohammad Rafiq Itoo of Watrigam Dialgam led to recovery of approximately 51 kgs of cannabis-like substance.

At Sakhras Crossing, police arrested Rayees Ahmad Shah of Wullarhama after five kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

At Doodnad Waghama and recovered 170 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹18,700 cash from the possession of an alleged drug peddler whose name was not disclosed.

In Handwara, a “significant quantity” of contraband cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Ghulam Hassan Khan of Maidan Chogul.

In Baramulla, at Ghat Palhalan near the Railway underpass, police arrested Manzoor Ahmad Lone of Yedipora after approximately 150 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession, police spokesman said.

He said in Shopian, at Tul Bagh Haji Check Crossing, 144 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Jumeer Ahmad Mir of Pirpora Keegam, who was subsequently arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Anantnag have also attached a vehicle (JK03K 9820), used in narcotics case.

Police Station Utrasoo attached the belongings to Farooq Ahmed Khan of Poshnari Checklipora Chatergul, after it was found to have been used for transportation and concealment of narcotic drugs. The vehicle is involved in Case FIR No. 39/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Utrasoo, police said.
