Drass: Three drivers trapped after a snow avalanche struck Zojila Pass along the Srinagar–Leh highway have been rescued safely, while damaged vehicles have been retrieved, officials said on Sunday.

The avalanche occurred on Saturday near Shaitani Nallah in the Drass sector, where multiple vehicles—including two tankers travelling from Sonamarg towards Kargil—were hit and pushed off the road.

Rescue teams from UTDRF Kargil, Police Station Drass and Baseej volunteers launched a coordinated operation and safely evacuated the trapped drivers. Officials said the affected vehicles have also been recovered from the snow and placed back on the road.

Despite the successful rescue, the Srinagar–Leh highway remains closed following the avalanche. Clearance operations are currently underway to restore traffic movement along the route, which remains vulnerable to snow hazards during this period. (KNT)
