Srinagar: Police have arrested a drug peddler each in Awantipora and Tangmarg areas, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.
He said during checking at Sharshalli, police recovered 906 grams of ‘Bhang Choora’ (cannabis) from the possession of a local resident Ashiq Hussain Bhat, who was apprehended on the spot.
One Shaukat Ali of Kataiya Supaul Bihar, presently residing at Chandilora Tangmarg, was arrested near J&K Bank ATM, Chandilora after approximately 20 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said.
Spokesperson also informed that police during routine patrolling at village Yall in Pattan, found out that one Ghulam Rasool Yatto had illegally cultivated poppy crop on his agricultural land.
“The cultivation was intended for illicit trade and unlawful monetary gain, posing a serious threat to the youth by promoting drug abuse,” police said, adding a case was registered under Section 8/18 of NDPS Act and investigation has been initiated.
