Srinagar/Jammu: Traffic Police Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir on Monday issued an advisory for April 21, warning commuters of possible delays and restrictions on several major roads across the Union Territory due to landslide threats, snowfall, road maintenance and adverse weather conditions.

According to the advisory, slow movement was witnessed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), particularly between Marog and Kishtwari Pathar, owing to the breakdown of heavy vehicles and the movement of nomadic herds along the route.

The Traffic Police advised operators of passenger vehicles and light motor vehicles to undertake travel during the daytime only, as there remains a possibility of landslides, shooting stones and traffic disruptions along the Ramban-Banihal stretch, where construction work is also underway.

Officials said traffic on NH-44 would remain subject to fair weather and road conditions. Light motor vehicles and private cars would be allowed to ply from both sides, while the movement of heavy motor vehicles would be regulated in accordance with lane discipline and traffic management requirements.

The movement of security forces convoys will also be regulated, with vehicles from either side to be allowed only after clearance from the concerned Traffic Control Units.

Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road continues to remain closed due to the accumulation of snow, the advisory said.

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, officials said traffic from Minamarg towards Srinagar would be allowed only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies and depending upon weather conditions.

Similarly, traffic on the Mughal Road will be permitted only after clearance from the concerned authorities. Light motor vehicles may be allowed to move between Shopian and Poonch during specified hours, subject to improvement in road and weather conditions.

The Traffic Police urged commuters to verify the latest road status from the Traffic Control Units before starting their journey, warning that weather and road conditions could change rapidly.
