11 arrested under anti-drug campaign across Kashmir

Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested 11 alleged drug peddlers from different parts of the valley and recovered over seven kilograms of contraband, officials said.

Continuing its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, police have intensified its enforcement drive, arresting 11 drug peddlers and seizing substantial contraband and cash in separate operations across the valley, a police spokesperson said.

The officer said that in Anantnag, police arrested three alleged drug peddlers in two separate operations.

They recovered over 1.3 kgs of charas powder, he said.

In Pulwama, four people were arrested in two separate operations, and 7.5 grams of heroin-like substance along with Rs 1,500 cash, and 8.5 grams of brown sugar-like substance were recovered from their possession, according to the spokesperson.

He said that in Handwara, another alleged peddler was arrested during naka checking at Shahlaal Crossing along with charas-like substance.

In Baramulla, two persons were arrested during routine naka checking at Wanigam Payeen, and police recovered 18 grams of charas and 70 tablets of Tapentadol from their possession, he said, adding that their vehicle was also seized.

In Bandipora, police apprehended a “notorious drug peddler” during naka checking at Banyari Ajas, and 5.7 kgs of charas powder was recovered from his possession, the spokesperson said, adding that stringent action against peddlers and smugglers will continue to safeguard the youth and society.
