Baramulla: A daily-wage employee of Power Development Department (PDD) died after suffering electric shock while carrying out repair work in Binner area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, son of Mohammad Sultan Sheikh, a resident of Binner area of the district. He was part of a maintenance team engaged in routine repair of the electricity network when the incident took place.
Officials said that the employee received a severe electric shock during the course of work, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Baramulla for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
The incident has sparked concern over workplace safety measures, particularly during high-risk electrical operations. Colleagues and local residents expressed grief over the sudden demise of the employee.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the mishap.
