Srinagar: The Court of Special Mobile Magistrate (Traffic), Kashmir has convicted a man for driving without a valid driving licence, sentencing him to three months’ simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The case was taken up for hearing in the presence of the violator and his counsel, while Assistant Public Prosecutor Chasfeeda Shafi represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The case pertained to an offence under Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act, after the violator was found driving a vehicle bearing registration number JK04K-6597 without holding a valid driving licence.

During the proceedings, the statement of the violator was recorded, and he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court, after considering the plea and the nature of the violation, observed that the accused did not seek to defend himself despite being given adequate opportunity, and proceeded to convict him.

Section 3 of the Motor Vehicles Act mandates that no person shall drive a motor vehicle in a public place without a valid driving licence, while Section 181 prescribes punishment of up to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of ₹5,000, or both, for violations.

Taking note of the admission of guilt, the court stated that there was no need to proceed further with the trial and awarded the sentence accordingly.

The order noted that the violator was convicted for the offence under Section 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and sentenced to three months’ simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000. (KNT)
