ANANTNAG: Authorities on Thursday conducted a draw of lots for the allotment of tents and shops for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026 at various locations along the Pahalgam axis, with officials saying the exercise was aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness.

The draw was held at Dak Bungalow, Khanabal, in the presence of applicants, service providers and their representatives.

The allotment process was carried out through a designated committee comprising the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer of Pahalgam Development Authority, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pahalgam, Assistant Director Tourism Pahalgam and District Informatics Officer of National Informatics Centre. Officials said the allotment was done through a randomisation software to ensure fairness and transparency.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and Yatra Officer for the Pahalgam axis, Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, oversaw the entire process in the presence of the Additional Commissioner Revenue and other officials.

Applicants had earlier submitted applications for installing shops and pitching tents at identified locations en route to the holy cave shrine. Officials said the quota for various categories of applicants was allocated strictly in accordance with guidelines issued by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhat said the exercise formed part of the pre-Yatra logistical planning for the annual pilgrimage, which witnesses a large influx of devotees each year through the Pahalgam route.

He appealed to all stakeholders to extend full cooperation for the smooth and successful conduct of SANJY-2026.

The applicants and service providers present during the exercise expressed satisfaction over the transparent conduct of the allotment process and appreciated the administration for providing a fair and equal opportunity to all.
