The accused were identified as Liyaqat Ali and Amanat Ali, both residents of Nagrota.

Police said 533 grams of poppy straw and 20 cannabis sticks weighing around 735 grams were recovered from their possession, following which both were arrested.

In a separate operation at Dangarpora–Warpora Bypass Road in Sopore, police arrested Umar Amin Banday and Basit Ahmad Shah after recovering a cannabis-like substance and Codeine Phosphate from their possession.

Umar Amin Banday is a resident of Noorbagh, while Basit Ahmad Shah belongs to Naseem Bagh.

Police said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations and further investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, police in Pulwama attached a double-storey residential house valued at Rs 32.19 lakh in the Lalhar area of Kakapora under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

According to police, the property belongs to Abdul Hamid Bhat, son of Mohammad Ismail, who has already been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh by the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge Pulwama in a drug-related case.

Police said investigations established that the property had been acquired through proceeds from illicit drug trafficking.

Accordingly, the house was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after completion of legal formalities.

The attachment was carried out on the spot and a notice was affixed in the presence of police officials and independent witnesses.
