Kulgam: Authorities on Friday shifted classes for students in upper Nandimarg in Kulgam after a video showing schoolchildren crossing a flowing stream to reach school surfaced on social media.
Acting on the directions of the Education Minister, the Chief Education Officer of Kulgam visited the area to assess the situation.
During the visit, the officer found that around 90 students from the upper belt of Nandimarg had to cross the stream every day due to the absence of a bridge in order to attend school.
Taking note of the safety concerns, the authorities decided to shift classes for students of 9th and 10th standard to a newly constructed double-storey school building located in the upper area of Nandimarg, where most of the students are enrolled.
Officials said three subject-specific teachers have been deployed at the new building to conduct classes and ensure that students can continue their education without having to cross the stream.
The administration said the arrangement has resolved the issue and that academic activities for the affected students will now continue safely and without disruption.
