JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday held a high-level Steering Committee meeting to explore the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance, with a focus on improving public service delivery and enabling data-driven decision-making.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (PWD) Anil Kumar Singh and attended by senior officials, including Secretary Information Technology Dr. Piyush Singla, CEO JaKeGA Mahima Madan, along with technical experts and representatives from premier institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology, National Health Systems Resource Centre and BISAG-N.

The meeting deliberated on leveraging AI-driven solutions to enhance governance efficiency, streamline operations and improve service delivery across departments.

Officials identified key sectors for AI integration, including public works, disaster management, healthcare, agriculture, education, transport, finance and road safety.

Among the major application areas discussed were predictive analytics for disaster forecasting, satellite-based monitoring, AI-enabled diagnostics in healthcare, intelligent traffic and crime analysis systems and smart learning tools in education.

The meeting stressed the need to identify scalable and high-impact use cases, particularly in agriculture and healthcare, for early implementation.

It was decided that all administrative departments will prepare comprehensive, sector-specific AI roadmaps with clearly defined timelines. Technical agencies and academic institutions will provide support in solution design, pilot implementation and capacity building.

The committee also emphasised adopting successful AI models from other states and tailoring them to suit the unique requirements of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in sectors like agriculture and security governance.

Officials highlighted the importance of identifying low-hanging use cases for early adoption to deliver quick and measurable outcomes.

The meeting concluded with directions to constitute a dedicated group of officers and technical experts for finalising AI use cases, prioritise key departments in the first phase and involve domain experts from IITs and BISAG-N for structured implementation.

All departments have been asked to submit detailed AI roadmaps for review in the next meeting, marking a significant step towards building a digitally empowered and future-ready Jammu and Kashmir.
