Srinagar/Jammu: Two persons were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in Baramulla and Kathua districts on Sunday.

In the first incident, a woman lost her life and a driver was critically injured after a vehicle plunged into a nallah in the Uri area of Baramulla district.

Officials said a Mahindra XUV300 bearing registration number JK09C-1649 was on its way from Uri to Nambla when it skidded off the road near Syedpora bridge and rolled into Hajipeer Nallah.

The deceased was identified as Mubeena Bano, daughter of Kabir Ahmad Parray and a resident of Balkote.

The injured driver, identified as Sajad Tariq, son of Mohammad Tariq and a resident of Nowpora Karnah, was rescued and shifted to Sub-District Hospital Uri. Officials said his condition was stated to be stable.

Soon after the accident, local residents, members of a volunteer team from Nambla and police personnel launched a rescue operation and retrieved the body of the woman from the nallah.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the accident.

In another incident in Kathua district, a 60-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in a road accident on Bhagthali Road.

Officials identified the deceased as Balvinder Singh, a resident of Kathua, who was brought dead to hospital after the accident.

The three injured persons sustained head and internal injuries and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Officials said the body of the deceased had been shifted to the mortuary for medico-legal formalities
