The Minister said the move was aimed at strengthening specialised healthcare services and improving medical infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

She said the additional posts have been created for the 120-bedded block recently added to the Bone and Joint Hospital.

According to the Minister, the construction of the additional block was expedited under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and was later dedicated to public service.

Sakeena Itoo said that medical services in the new block were initially being managed through internal arrangements and rational deployment of existing staff.

However, she said the growing patient load and need for specialised manpower led the Health and Medical Education Department to assess the staffing requirements.

Following the assessment, the Council of Ministers headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved the creation of 64 posts in various categories.

The newly sanctioned posts include Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Microbiology, besides Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nursing staff, technicians, administrative personnel and other support staff.

The Minister said the new appointments would strengthen the hospital’s functioning and improve service delivery.

She said strengthening specialised institutions such as Bone and Joint Hospital is important for improving trauma care, orthopaedic treatment and emergency response services in Kashmir.

Sakeena Itoo said the Government remains committed to expanding healthcare infrastructure, increasing manpower and ensuring better medical services for the public.
