During the session, Dr. Itoo spoke about the changing approach to diabetes care, highlighting the shift from a glucose-centric model to a broader cardio-renal-metabolic framework.

He explained important pathophysiological concepts such as the “Ominous Octet” and the “Egregious Eleven”, which describe the multiple factors involved in the development and progression of diabetes mellitus.

Dr. Itoo also discussed recent developments in diabetes pharmacotherapy, with particular emphasis on GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors.

He further highlighted the continuing role of DPP-4 inhibitors and newer insulin therapies in improving diabetes management.

Emphasising the need for patient-centred care, he said treatment strategies should be tailored to individual patients to ensure better glycaemic control and improved long-term outcomes.

The lecture also focused on the increasing importance of modern glucose monitoring technologies, including Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) and Time in Range (TIR), in the effective management of diabetes.

Faculty members and students of the Department of Pharmacology attended the session.

Among those present were Professor and Head of the Department Dr Ajay Kumar, Assistant Professor Dr Bhanu Priya Singh, Associate Professor Dr Shallini Gupta and Senior Resident Dr Vikram Sharma.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion on the practical application of recent advances in diabetes care in clinical practice.
