The Minister said work on upgradation of Raja Ram Singh Stadium into a multipurpose sports stadium is also underway.

He informed the House that Rs 5.73 lakh has so far been spent out of Rs 17 lakh released for the project, while the total approved cost stands at Rs 20 lakh. The work is likely to be completed by October 2026.

Sharma said the department is taking steps for equitable development of sports infrastructure in the region and new proposals would be examined subject to availability of funds and technical feasibility.

He added that the department regularly organises sports tournaments, coaching camps, youth engagement programmes and awareness activities to promote sports culture and identify talent in the constituency.

Legislators R. S. Pathania and Balwant Singh Mankotia also raised supplementaries during the discussion.

Regarding Marh constituency, Sharma said the department has taken up several schemes for development of sports infrastructure.

He informed that renovation of the playfield at Marh is being carried out at a cost of Rs 1 crore and the work has achieved 50 per cent progress.

The Minister said the construction of a synthetic volleyball court at Government High School Suriyachak, taken up at a cost of Rs 15.50 lakh, has been completed.

He also informed that the development of a playfield at Sant Hare Ram Dass Public School has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 31.65 lakh.

Sharma said Government Degree College Marh has been allotted 51 kanal and 11 marla of land at Dhateryal village, where construction of the college building is in progress.

He said the college is presently functioning from prefabricated structures and facilities, such as an indoor sports hall, gymnasium and athletic track, which would be taken up after completion of the first phase of the college building.

The Minister further informed that around 9,233 activities related to coaching camps, talent hunts, scholarships and other sports initiatives have been organised in Jammu district, while 143 sports tournaments and events were held between November 2024 and February 2026.

He said several schemes for the development of sports infrastructure, organisation of district and state-level tournaments, provision of sports uniforms and support for training programmes are also being implemented in Marh constituency.

Sharma added that school- and village-level awareness and participation programmes are being organised in Marh and that the constituency is benefiting from the J&K Sports Policy 2022, which focuses on talent identification, mass participation, structured coaching and incentives for sportspersons.
