Baramulla: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed a chargesheet against former Naib Tehsildar Uri Altaf Hussain Khan and Patwari Halqa Uri Pardeep Kumar in a bribery case registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla.

According to the ACB, a resident of Uri had approached the Tehsil office in September 2023 seeking revenue documents relating to a 10-marla piece of land on which he had constructed a house.

The complainant alleged that the two officials demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh, which was later negotiated down to ₹1 lakh, in return for furnishing the required report and documents.

After the complainant approached the ACB, a trap was laid by the agency.

During the operation, Altaf Hussain Khan was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and he was arrested on the spot, the ACB said.

The bureau said investigation established the involvement of both accused, including the role of Pardeep Kumar, on the basis of evidence collected during the probe.

After obtaining prosecution sanction from the Jammu and Kashmir government, the ACB filed the chargesheet under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 read with Section 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The court has fixed May 2, 2026 as the next date of hearing.

The ACB said this is the seventh chargesheet filed by Police Station ACB Baramulla in 2026 before the Anti-Corruption Court in different corruption cases.
