The collaboration aims to support the Jammu & Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority in enhancing disaster preparedness and risk reduction through a comprehensive set of interventions. These include multi-hazard risk assessments, strengthening disaster management plans at the Union Territory, district, and departmental levels, and capacity building across key sectors.

The programme will also focus on priority areas such as landslide and seismic risk mitigation, school safety initiatives, and the development of project proposals to mobilize disaster risk reduction financing.

This partnership is part of UNDP’s National Resilience Programme, which is being implemented across multiple states and Union Territories under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority. The programme seeks to strengthen national and sub-national institutions by promoting data-driven and forward-looking disaster risk management systems aligned with India’s evolving risk landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a sustained partnership aimed at strengthening institutional capacities, enhancing preparedness, and building resilient communities across Jammu & Kashmir.
