GANDERBAL: Police on Saturday seized six vehicles allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in different parts of Ganderbal district.
According to police, the action was taken in the jurisdictions of Safapora, Lar and Gund police stations during an ongoing drive against illegal mining.
The seized vehicles were allegedly found extracting and transporting mining material without valid permission and in violation of prescribed norms. The matter was subsequently referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed the requisite fine under the relevant legal provisions.
Police said the drive against illegal mining would continue and urged the public to cooperate in protecting natural resources and reporting such unlawful activities.
