BANDIPORA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, chaired a detailed meeting of the District Nutrition Committee (DNC) and District Monitoring Committee (DMC) to review the status of nutrition indicators, convergence efforts and quality assurance mechanisms in the district.

During the meeting, District Programme Officer ICDS Bandipora, Yaar Ali Khan, briefed the chair on key agenda points including nutrition, convergence, programme implementation and monitoring systems.

The meeting reviewed key components and major focus areas, including Key Objectives and Quality Assurance, District Nutrition Committee (DNC) roles, Mission Poshan implementation in the district, Supplementary Nutrition Programme (THR & HCM), Nutritional and Cost Norms, Kuposhan Mukt Bharat initiative, Convergence with Food Safety Department and FSSAI compliance, Poshan Vatika development, Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) frameworks under NEP 2020, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi capacity building of AWWs, PMMVY achievements, Saksham Anganwadi and Bal-Vidyalayas, Palna (creche) services, Infrastructure gaps in AWCs, and inter-departmental convergence for holistic nutrition outcomes, while emphasizing regular monitoring, quality testing, and community participation to ensure effective service delivery across the district.

The DC emphasized addressing malnutrition through a focused and data-driven approach and sought a Tehsil-wise list of malnourished children for targeted interventions.

Highlighting the importance of capacity building, the DC directed all Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to equip themselves with adequate knowledge and skills for effective service delivery. She underscored the need for strict monitoring and accountability, reiterating a zero tolerance policy against defaulters.

The DC called for enhanced inter-departmental convergence, particularly with Health and NRLM, for holistic development outcomes. The meeting also reviewed reports on RBSK screenings and food testing in schools, with directions for necessary follow-up action.

Stressing improvement in infrastructure, the DC directed concerned departments to work on strengthening basic facilities including buildings, electricity and drinking water in Anganwadi Centres.

The DC also appreciated the positive role of the Child Protection Office in ensuring adoption and care of children in the district, reflecting improved outreach and support mechanisms.

During the meeting, noted expert Dr Seedhar from CARE India shared insights on Anganwadi nutrition and capacity building of Anganwadi Workers, providing valuable technical guidance for improving outcomes.

The meeting was attended by SDM Sumbal and Gurez, Assistant Commissioner Development, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Designated Officer Food Safety, Anganwadi Workers, members from civil society organizations and other concerned officers and officials.
