Ganderbal: In a bid to promote sportsmanship and youth engagement, Police on Tuesday inaugurated the Martyr Inspector Mushtaq Ahmad Baba T-20 Cricket Tournament at Qamariya Stadium, Ganderbal, under the Civic Action Programme.
The tournament was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, who was accompanied by Additional SP Ganderbal Owaise Loun and DySP Headquarters Ganderbal Umer Urfan.
The inaugural match was played between Rising Star Baderkund and Shallabugh Blasters. A total of 32 teams from across the district are participating in the tournament, reflecting strong enthusiasm among local youth for sporting activities.
On the occasion, the SSP interacted with the participating teams and highlighted the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork and a positive mindset among young people. He said such initiatives not only provide a platform for youth to showcase their talent but also help channel their energy towards constructive and productive pursuits.
The participating players thanked the police for organising the event and providing them an opportunity to take part in healthy competition.
The tournament witnessed an encouraging response from locals and sports enthusiasts, marking a spirited start to the event.
Police said it will continue to organise such programmes to strengthen police-public relations and promote peace, harmony and youth development in the district.
