SRINAGAR: J&K Forest Department launched the sale of conifer plants for the general public at Sheikhbagh Forest Complex, Srinagar today with an aim to enhance the tree cover outside forests, particularly in Urban and Peri-Urban areas of Kashmir Valley.
The initiative was formally inaugurated by Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle, Saurabh Sharma, in the presence of several forest officials, including Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar, Dr Sheikh Mehraj.
Speaking on the occasion, the Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle, highlighted the need for intensive plantation and emphasised planting indigenous conifers, including Deodar, Kail, and Fir. He emphasises the role of the public in helping the Forest Department to increase the green cover, especially outside forests.
It was informed that the sale centre has been established at Sheikhbagh Forest Complex for the convenience of the general public and plants will be made available for sale at subsidized rate of Rs.13.50 per sapling. The saplings will be available at the centre upto March 31.
