Bandipora: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Thursday conducted an extensive field visit to Wangipora Sumbal, Naninara Bridge, Hajin and Chandergir to review ongoing infrastructure works and assess ground conditions, including issues related to land subsidence.

Officials informed that a graveyard along the project alignment has reduced the road width to two lanes at a particular stretch. The DC directed concerned agencies to resolve the issue in consultation with stakeholders while ensuring minimal impact on the project timeline. She also stressed the need to expedite work by deploying adequate manpower and machinery and maintaining close inter-departmental coordination.

At Naninara Bridge, the DC assessed ongoing works and reviewed the structural condition of the bridge. Citing prevailing weather conditions and the sensitive nature of the project, she announced that the alternate route will remain closed to all vehicular traffic, including two-wheelers, for another week.

She appreciated the efforts of the R&B Sub-Division Sumbal, along with the support of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and district administration, in carrying forward the work.

Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to the public, the DC appealed for patience and cooperation, emphasizing that safety and structural quality remain the top priority.

The Deputy Commissioner also visited Hajin and Chandergir areas, where she inspected sites affected by land subsidence. She directed the concerned departments to undertake detailed assessments and implement coordinated, time-bound measures to mitigate risks and safeguard vulnerable areas. She also stressed the need for a sustainable, long-term solution to the issue.

During the visit, the DC interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns, and assured them of full administrative support. She emphasized that public cooperation is crucial for the timely completion of developmental works and the effective resolution of emerging challenges.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zaffar Hussain Shawl, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sumbal, Executive Engineers, Tehsildar Sumbal and other concerned officers.
