Srinagar: The Directorate of Agriculture Kashmir on Thursday concluded a seven-day training programme on scientific beekeeping at the Agriculture Complex, Lalmandi, aimed at promoting apiculture as a sustainable livelihood in the Valley.
The programme, which began on March 13, was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Kashmir Sartaj Ahmad Shah and brought together both existing and aspiring beekeepers from across the Kashmir division.
Designed to strengthen modern beekeeping practices, the training covered key areas including colony management, disease prevention and control, advanced honey extraction techniques, and value addition of hive products. Participants were also trained in improving pollination services to enhance yields in horticultural and oilseed crops.
The initiative forms part of the department’s broader efforts to boost honey production, generate rural employment, and improve agricultural sustainability through scientific pollination practices.
At the valedictory function, Joint Director Inputs Sohan Singh distributed certificates among participants who completed the training.
Participants expressed appreciation for the programme, noting that it provided practical insights into modern beekeeping methods to improve productivity, better manage colonies, and increase income.
The event concluded with officials reiterating the department’s commitment to capacity building and equipping local beekeepers with contemporary scientific knowledge.
