Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has intensified its drive against illegal mining across South Kashmir, seizing eight vehicles in Pulwama and Anantnag districts for their involvement in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.
A police spokesperson said that in Pulwama, a special operation was conducted in Akhal and Drubgam areas of Rajpora, during which five vehicles—including two JCB machines, one dumper and two tractors—were seized for their alleged role in illegal mining activities. Accordingly, cases vide FIR Nos. 34/2026 and 35/2026 have been registered at the concerned police station and investigation has been taken up.
In Anantnag, the spokesperson said that a naka checking operation by Police Station Aishmuqam at Badigam led to the interception of three tractors found carrying illegally extracted bajri from Nallah Lidder. The vehicles were seized on the spot, and a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Aishmuqam. Further investigation has been set into motion.
Police reiterated its commitment to act firmly against illegal mining activities and urged the public to cooperate in safeguarding natural resources.
