DC Kupwara reviews measures to curb drug abuse

KUPWARA: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review measures undertaken to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the district.

The meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara, Syed Al Tahir Gilani; SSP Handwara, Sahil Sarangal, ADC Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan, ACR, CEO, CMO, Principals of Government Degree Colleges (GDCs), Tehsildars and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner sought detailed feedback from all departments on progress in key areas, including the functioning of ATF and DDRC, ongoing awareness drives, CCTV surveillance in hotspot areas, Nasha Mukt Panchayat initiatives, rehabilitation efforts, and related activities.

Emphasizing the need for sustained and coordinated action, the DC directed departments to work proactively and aggressively against drug abuse and addiction. He stressed that collective efforts are essential to making the district drug-free.

Regarding illegal cultivation, the Deputy Commissioner directed concerned departments to maintain vigil and ensure timely action.

He also reviewed effectiveness of awareness drives being conducted under Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan and directed to ensure adequate training of counsellors and their further proactive role in these awareness drives.
