Anantnag: Continuing the International Women’s Day celebrations, the Agriculture Production Department Anantnag on Monday organised a “Gender, Targeting & Inclusion Sensitization Workshop” at Town Hall here, aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowering rural women.
The workshop, held under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” was conducted under the aegis of the IFAD-JKCIP Project.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Dr. Bilal Mohiud Din Bhat attended the event as chief guest. The programme witnessed participation from the Chief Agriculture Officer, District Development Fisheries Officer, officials from agriculture and allied departments, and women from various walks of life.
The workshop focused on sensitising officers and field functionaries about the importance of gender mainstreaming in agricultural initiatives. Discussions highlighted the need to ensure equitable access for women farmers and girls to resources, technology, and decision-making processes within the farming sector.
Addressing the gathering, the DDC described women as “leaders and drivers of change,” noting their growing contributions across sectors, particularly in agriculture. He stressed that women deserve due recognition for both their specific and broader roles in society.
Encouraging women to explore opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors, he urged them to take advantage of flagship initiatives such as HADP, JKCIP, and Mission YUVA to generate employment for themselves and others.
Dr. Bhat also called upon farmers and prospective beneficiaries to actively avail government schemes aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector and improving livelihoods.
On the occasion, the Chief Agriculture Officer briefed participants on various departmental schemes designed to enhance productivity and create sustainable livelihood opportunities, particularly for women engaged in agriculture and allied activities.
The event concluded with the felicitation of women achievers, who were honoured with mementoes and certificates for their contributions in different fields.
The initiative reflects the district administration’s commitment to women empowerment and effective implementation of key agricultural and livelihood schemes.
