Jammu: Former Union Minister Dr. Karan Singh on Saturday inaugurated a ten-day exhibition of artworks and photographs highlighting memories of Operation Sindoor and the floods of 2025 at Kala Kendra in Jammu.
Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Brij Mohan Sharma, was the special guest on the occasion.
The exhibition has been jointly organised by the Amar Mahal Museum and Library (AMML) and Kala Kendra Jammu, and is being held across all five galleries on the ground floor of the cultural complex.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Karan Singh said that Jammu and Kashmir has made immense contributions to the country’s art scene. He appreciated artists and painters from the region for promoting the local ethos and cultural heritage at both national and international levels.
Expressing sorrow over the tragic incidents during Operation Sindoor that resulted in the loss of lives, he said the floods of 2025 also marked a painful chapter in the region’s history. He lauded the organisers for documenting the suffering and resilience of people through photographs.
Brij Mohan Sharma, in his address, described Dr. Karan Singh—who recently celebrated his 95th birthday—as a living legend and a symbol of wisdom, dignity and humanity. He said Dr. Singh’s lifelong commitment to culture, philosophy and public service continues to inspire generations.
Sharma also highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the Department of Culture for the preservation and promotion of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Secretary Kala Kendra Jammu Dr. Javaid Rahi said the ten-day exhibition showcases a rich collection of artworks, including miniature paintings, along with a photo exhibition documenting memories of Operation Sindoor and the floods.
Dr. Jyotsana Singh said the exhibition coincides with the fourth edition of the Tawi Festival currently being celebrated in Jammu. She noted that the exhibition presents rare artworks from the Amar Mahal Museum and Library and photographs depicting the suffering and resilience of people during Operation Sindoor and the floods of 2025.
Renowned art historian Dr. Lalit Gupta, who was also present on the presidium, said the exhibition features rare and exceptional works by distinguished painters and urged art lovers in Jammu to visit and appreciate the diverse artistic expressions on display.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at Kala Kendra, Jammu, until March 23.
