International Women’s Day celebrated in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Baramulla today at the Dak Bungalow.

The programme, organised by the Social Welfare Department Baramulla, was attended by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, as the Chief Guest.

The event witnessed a large gathering of women from different walks of life who participated with enthusiasm.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that women today are excelling in every sphere of life and playing a vital role in the progress and development of society. He emphasised that empowering women through education, skill development and economic opportunities is essential for building a strong and inclusive society.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated women achievers from different fields in recognition of their outstanding contributions. Meritorious female students were also honoured for their academic excellence.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner inspected various stalls installed by NRLM, the Employment Department and other departments. Several Self Help Groups (SHGs) also showcased their products and locally prepared items, highlighting their entrepreneurial initiatives and livelihood activities. The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the participants and appreciated their efforts in promoting self-reliance and women’s empowerment.

During the programme, sewing machines, educational kits and sports kits were distributed among beneficiaries to support women empowerment and encourage education and sports among girls.

The Deputy Commissioner also handed over cheques to beneficiaries for establishment of units under Mission YUVA, aimed at promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship among youth.
