Police seize 4 vehicles in Shopian crackdown on illegal mining; 2 FIRs registered

Shopian: Continuing its drive against illegal mining, police in Shopian seized four vehicles allegedly involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals in the Turkwangam area of the district.

During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Post Turkwangam intercepted a tipper and a tractor engaged in mining activities without valid royalty documents. In this connection, FIR No. 20/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.

In a separate action in the Heff area, another police team from the same post intercepted a tipper and a JCB machine involved in unauthorized mineral extraction. Accordingly, FIR No. 21/2026 was registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation is underway.

Police reiterated its commitment to protecting natural resources and warned of strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. The public has been urged to report such activities, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
