Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Tuesday condemned the arrest of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Udey Bhanu Chib, terming the action arbitrary and undemocratic.
In a statement, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, along with senior party leaders, said the arrest was illegal and unjustified. The party maintained that the right to peaceful protest and expression of dissent is guaranteed in a democratic system and alleged that the detention of the youth leader over a protest was authoritarian in nature.
The Congress also announced that the party and its frontal wings would hold a peaceful demonstration against the action of the central government.
According to the statement, the protest will be held at 2 pm at Shaheedi Chowk in Jammu.
