Srinagar: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to review emergency services following public concerns regarding the functioning of emergency departments in government hospitals.
The delegation was led by party spokesperson Mohammad Iqbal Tramboo and included former MLA Noor Mohammad Sheikh, spokesperson Zuhaib Yousuf Mir and former state secretary Arif Laigroo. The leaders met SKIMS Director Dr. Ashraf Ganai and raised complaints alleging that junior doctors and trainees were attending patients in emergency wings without adequate senior supervision.
Dr. Ganai accompanied the delegation to the emergency ward and briefed them about the arrangements. He said senior doctors, including specialists with MD and DM qualifications, were on duty and that the first point of contact for incoming patients was a senior doctor to ensure proper triage and supervision.
He also informed the delegation that testing facilities, operation theatres and other critical care infrastructure at the institute had been strengthened to ensure quality patient care.
After reviewing the facilities, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the supervision and systems in place at SKIMS. The PDP leaders, however, said they would also visit other government hospitals in Srinagar to assess arrangements and address public grievances.
The party reiterated its commitment to raising public issues and ensuring accountability and improved healthcare services for the people.
