Srinagar: Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Saturday expressed grave concern over the alleged assault on Kashmiri students and the continued suspension of as many as 33 students enrolled at Mewar University in Rajasthan.
Pertinently, Kashmiri students were assaulted and intimidated following a campus protest over the institution’s recognition status.
In his statement, Ghulam Hassan Mir said, “I am deeply concerned about reports suggesting that BSc Nursing students from Kashmir were recently assaulted while protesting against the university’s failure to obtain the required registration from the Indian Nursing Council and the Rajasthan Nursing Council. With the degree programme scheduled to be completed within the next four months, the students are distressed about the validity of their qualifications. I am also told that as many as 33 students are being continuously kept under suspension by the college authorities. If this is true, it is highly concerning.”
Mir urged the UT government to intervene in the matter, “I strongly urge the Jammu and Kashmir government to take up this issue with the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of these students and safeguard their careers.”
He said that action should be taken against the university for its failure to obtain the required registration, thus putting the future of the enrolled students at stake.
