5 drug-peddlers arrested in north Kashmir

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday apprehended three alleged drug peddlers from the Pattan area of Baramulla district.

In a post on the official X handle of Baramulla Police, a spokesperson said 61 grams of brown sugar-like substance, 39 foil pouches and a weighing machine were recovered from their possession.

He said a case has been registered at the Pattan police station under Section 8/21-29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The spokesperson did not mention the value of the seized contraband substance.

The arrested peddlers were identified as Imran Hussain Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla; Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, and Mohammad Saleem Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, all residents of Yakhmanpora.

Similarly in Sopore, a police party intercepted an Auto load carrier (JK05N-3386) and recovered poppy straw, Codeine bottles, and digital weighing machines besides, cash from Tariq Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Hathishah, and Mohammad Shafi Gojree, son of Ghulam Din Gojree, resident of Ningli, travelling in it.

All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
