SRINAGAR: Multiple infrastructure projects funded by the Government of India will soon be launched in Srinagar to improve traffic flow, connectivity, and urban facilities, Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo said on Saturday.

Work on key projects, including vehicular underpasses near Mominabad and Nowgam Railway Station, has received government approval, with final designs ready. A foot over-bridge at Children’s Hospital, Bemina, is also planned, with surveys and field inspections underway.

“These projects will help decongest city traffic and improve connectivity. Initiatives under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP), including an alternate route behind SMHS Hospital to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, covering the super specialty hospital and government medical college,” DC Srinagar said in a press conference.

Work on these projects, DC Srinagar claimed, has already begun using funds from the Government of India in convergence with NCAP.

Labroo also urged senior citizens above 70 to avail benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY), which provides medical coverage up to Rs 5 lakh through a card similar to the Ayushman Bharat Golden Card. Citizens can visit any BMO office in Srinagar or call numbers listed on official websites and social media.

DC further cited the recently completed Sanat Nagar project, now open for vehicular movement, and ongoing work on Srinagar Ring Road Phases 1 and 2. Phase-1 will connect districts surrounding Srinagar and South Kashmir, while Phase-2 is also under implementation.

Funded by the Government of India and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), these projects aim to gradually ease congestion and upgrade infrastructure.

“The combined implementation of underpasses, foot over-bridges, alternate healthcare routes, Sanat Nagar, and the ring road will significantly improve traffic management and connectivity across Srinagar,” Labroo said.
