Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday trapped and arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Station Bemina here for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 from a complainant.
According to officials, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Newa Pulwama and Investigating Officer (IO) of FIR No. 88/2025 registered at Police Station Bemina, had sought illegal gratification from the complainant despite the case already having been challaned before the competent court. The officer had also allegedly threatened the complainant with harassment if the demand was not met.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Subsequently, FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap and apprehended the accused officer red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹8,000 from the complainant. The accused was immediately taken into custody and the tainted money was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses.
