Srinagar: Police on Saturday arrested two gamblers in Ganderbal and a drug peddler in Baramulla in separate actions as part of its ongoing drive against illegal activities and drug trafficking.

In Ganderbal, police apprehended two persons involved in gambling at Narayan-Bagh, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Shadipora. The arrested individuals were identified as Bilal Ahmad Malik, son of Mohd Ismail Malik, a resident of Gamwara, Wakura, and Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Jalal-ud-din Khan, a resident of Narayan-Bagh.

During the operation, stake money amounting to Rs 3,370 along with a deck of playing cards was recovered from the spot. A case under FIR No. 19/2026, under Section 13 of the Gambling Act, has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation is underway.

In a separate incident in Baramulla, a police party during naka checking on the National Highway near Eco Park apprehended a drug peddler identified as Arshid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Mohd Maqbool Sheikh, a resident of Fatehgrah. During his personal search, 135.5 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, a case has been registered vide FIR No. 03/2026 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Sheeri and investigation has been initiated.
