Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended greetings to the people of the three northeastern states and paid tribute to their iconic personalities, recalling their contribution to nation-building.

The Lieutenant Governor said the cultural diversity and rich heritage of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya continue to act as important drivers of growth, innovation, economic vitality and social resilience in the region.

Referring to development initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he noted that enhanced connectivity, infrastructure development, heritage preservation and the establishment of premier educational institutions have contributed to economic growth, peace and cultural preservation in the region. He added that these efforts are also boosting tourism, hospitality and local economies, while encouraging youth participation and innovation.

Meanwhile, the ruling National Conference reiterated its long-standing demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, commenting on the occasion.

In a post on X, the party said that while it welcomed the celebration of statehood days of other states, it hoped that Jammu and Kashmir’s own promised statehood would also be addressed at the earliest.

The party’s remarks came in response to a post from the Lieutenant Governor’s office highlighting the Statehood Day celebrations at Lok Bhavan and underscoring the cultural and developmental achievements of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya.

Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into Union Territories following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The Union Government has on multiple occasions stated that statehood will be restored at an appropriate time.
