Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle today inaugurated its first N-Gen Post Office in Kashmir at the University of Kashmir campus. This is the second N-Gen Post Office in the J&K Circle, after AIIMS Vijaypur.

The N-Gen Post Office was dedicated by Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, and D. S. V. R. Murthy, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle, in the presence of Adam Mohi-ud-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division. The N-Gen initiative is part of the Department of Posts’ programme to modernise campus post offices and provide technology-enabled services.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nilofer Khan said that the initiative aligns postal services with the requirements of students and reflects the Department of Posts’ focus on service delivery in educational institutions.

D. S. V. R. Murthy said that the initiative is in line with the vision of the Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, to strengthen India Post as a logistics and financial services organisation. He said that the N-Gen Post Office integrates postal, banking, insurance, and e-commerce services and provides digital payment facilities and simplified service processes.

The Chief Postmaster General said that the N-Gen Post Office will help create awareness about postal savings schemes, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services, and other services among students and the university community.

The Post Office has been redesigned as part of the N-Gen initiative. Students of the University of Kashmir participated in the redesign process and were awarded certificates and an honorarium. Wall art at the Post Office was created by students of the School of Fine Arts. Facilities introduced at the Post Office include Aadhaar updation services, Wi-Fi, a coffee machine, and board games. A decorative pen installation has been placed next to the letter box.

Senior postal officers, faculty members, staff, and students of the University of Kashmir were present on the occasion.
