4 persons held for theft

Srinagar, Jan 16: Police in Awantipora have arrested a person for his alleged involvement in stealing copper wiring from the transformer of a rice mill.

Acting on a written complaint from one Umar Gani Wani of Beighpora about the theft of copper wiring at his rice mill, police during investigation zeroed in on and arrested one Showkat Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Ayoub Dar of Bonpora, Panzgam, a police spokesperson informed, adding that further investigation is going on and to ascertain involvement of the accused in other similar cases.

Police in Kupwara also cracked a burglary case reported at Police Post Bazaar, Kupwara and arrested three accused persons, spokesperson said.

Investigating a case of theft at Hajaj Market, police analysed CCTV footage from various locations, which led it to one Akhter Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, resident of Drugmulla. He was arrested, and on his disclosure, two more associates were arrested. Police identified one of them as Showket Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, resident of Drugmulla, and withheld the identity of another accused, citing “investigative reasons”.

Stolen property was also recovered from their residences, including cash, cash garlands, empty garlands, dry fruits, and readymade clothes (jeans and jackets). The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of the accused in other similar cases, police said.
